Camilo Santos
Camilo Santos has over 23 years of professional experience in areas related to the environment, agriculture, forestry, territorial planning, academia, growers association management, project management and public relations. Prior to joining RSPO, Camilo Santos was national director of agricultural and forestry chains at the ministry of agriculture and rural development in Colombia. He designed and evaluated policies, plans, programs and projects to strengthen agricultural and forestry chains, support insertion in international markets and generate added value in agricultural products. He previously worked for a Colombian agribusiness association, covering the Colombian Orinoquia region, including the Departments of Meta, Casanare and Vichada, where he liaised with both private and public stakeholders, including governors, mayors, commercial and regulatory state agencies, chambers of commerce, and productive sectors/associations as well as with international cooperation agencies. Camilo Santos has academic experience as a lecturer at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His professional trajectory began as part of the team of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of Cundinamarca-CAR, at the time when Law 99/93 that reformed the National Environmental System began to guide the country's development under the framework of sustainability. Camilo, also served in the office of the Secretary of the Environment of Cundinamarca as Director of Environmental Policy. As an environmental consultant he led environmental licensing processes for different types of projects (infrastructure, hospitals, among others) and to advance urban forestry processes in Bogota. Santos received his undergraduate degree in agricultural engineering from EARTH University (Costa Rica) with an emphasis on the humid tropical region, as well as specialization studies in environmental management.
