Nicholas Bryner, Associate Expert
Besides being an associate expert of the IIJS, Professor Bryner teaches courses in environmental law, administrative law, natural resources, and international environmental law at LSU. He serves as one of the core faculty members in LSU’s Energy Law program and as faculty advisor for the school’s Environmental Law Society. Professor Bryner has written several articles on environmental, energy, and natural resources law, and has spoken at major conferences throughout the world on topics related to comparative and international environmental law.
Professor Bryner was an Emmett/Frankel Fellow in Environmental Law and Policy at the UCLA School of Law for 2016-18. He served as Visiting Associate Professor and Environmental Law Fellow at George Washington University Law School (August 2014-June 2016) where he co-taught courses on environmental and natural resources law. He holds an L.L.M. in Environmental & Energy Law from The George Washington University Law School. Professor Bryner also earned joint degrees (J.D. / M.A.) in law and Latin American and Hemispheric Studies from The George Washington University Law School and Elliott School of International Affairs, and received his B.A. magna cum laude in Political Science from the University of Utah, with minors in Latin American Studies and Chemistry. From 2016 to 2021, Professor Bryner served on the Steering Committee of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law, and during 2021 as the Commission’s Deputy Chair. He is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
