IIJS participation in Sustainable Colombia: Politics, Planet and Democratic Security
On May 5th, 2021 the Chief Executive of the Inter-American Institute on Justice and Sustainability (IIJS), Claudia S. de Windt, participated in the New York University’s DC Dialogue event Sustainable Colombia: Politics, Planet and Democratic Security. A Conversation with President Alvaro Uribe Vélez, former President of Colombia between 2002 and 2010. The event was moderated by Geovanny Vicente Romero, political strategist and columnist for CNN Español. Ms. de Windt’s remarks are available here.
Technical difficulties related to the overwhelming number of participants caused connection disruptions in the event. IIJS Chief Executives' participation in this event, was focused on issues that more than ever are of relevance to the region: Politics, Planet and Democratic Security. IIJS supports the open exchange of ideas and different points views to nurture academic curiosity. Free speech and healthy debate with all parties, is necessary to build understanding and achieving better conditions, healing and laying the grounds for a better future. Events in Colombia have been headlining news over the past week. The country has experienced the highest death toll since the beginning of the pandemic and to-date, 19 people have tragically died during the protests related to fiscal reform. IIJS stands in solidarity with the Colombian people in this time of difficulty.
